A The Love Witch különlegessége több pilléren áll, itt van rögtön a műfajokba nehezen besorolhatósága. Hivatalosan egy vígjáték, horror, romantikus egyveleg. Vígjáték: van egyfajta fanyar humora és bája a filmnek, de ettől inkább szürreális, mintsem vicces. Romantikus: talán ehhez áll a legközelebb a három műfaj közül, de senki ne számítson egy klasszikus szerelmes történetre, a The Love Witch sokkal szokatlanabb, bizarrabb annál. Horror: ugyan sokat merít, pontosabban követi a ’60-as és a ’70-es évek horrorfilmjeit, de mégsem teremt meg egy feszültséggel, félelemmel teli atmoszférát, nincs tele vérrel, üldözéssel, sikítással. Számomra ezért kissé nehéz kategorizálni, egyébként én a melodrámát javasolnám.
A stílusa a másik faktor, amitől különleges. Említettem, hogy merít a régebbi filmekből, ami nem csupán a díszleteket, autókat, ruhákat stb. foglalja magában, hanem még a színészek játékát és a beszédstílusukat is. Mindettől modorossá válik, de a bájos és kimért csevegés közé bőven belefértek provokatív témák rendhagyó felvetései. Több alkalommal is elgondolkodtat, hogyan viszonyul a kultúránk a női szexualitáshoz, a csábításban rejlő hatalomhoz. Szokatlan perspektívába helyezi a nőt a férfival szemben.

Gahan: They teach us that a normative human being is a hyper-rationalist stoic male and that women's emotions and intuitions are illnesses that need to be cured. And they believe that men and women are different and that true equality lies in that difference.
Barbara: We strive for male/female polarity and to regain our primal power as goddesses. We need to teach men how to love us using ways they can understand.
Gahan: So goddesses, use perfume, wear high heels and makeup, learn to dress your hair in attractive ways, display flesh artfully, and know what to conceal. Be a mother and a lover. Stand your ground, but always let the man feel like a man.
Barbara: Use sex magic to destroy his fear of you and to open his heart to the floodgates of love. Only then will he begin to see you as a human being with all of your inner beauty. Then, when his heart is open to love, you may do with him what you will.
