Ez egy nagyon pozitív élmény volt. Egy barátnőm javasolta, hogy nézzük meg, mert az interneten nagyon terjednek belőle a részletek és az animációk (főleg a Noel's lament és a Ballad of Jane Doe, amik nagyon nagy népszerűségre tettek szert) és érdekesnek tűnik. Nagyon jó döntés volt.
A Ride the Cyclone dráma, fekete komédia és tinifilm egyszerre. A története szerint hat fiatal felszáll a Cyclone hullámvasútra, ami azonban kisiklik, és mind a hatan meghalnak. Tizenhét évesek, mind úgy érzik, hogy félbeszakadt az életük, a túlvilág előszobájában viszont találkoznak Karnakkal, a mechanikus jóssal (akinek éppen egy patkány rágcsálja a vezetékeit, így várhatóan hamarosan csatlakozik hozzájuk), aki tesz nekik egy ajánlatot: visszaadja az életet, de csak az egyiküknek. Úgyhogy elindul a verseny, mindegyikük mesél magáról, a vágyairól, az életéről, hogy végül meghozhassák a döntést, melyikük a legméltóbb rá, hogy túlélje a balesetet.
A karakterek szórakoztatóak, néha bolondok, néha bájosak, néha pedig veszedelmesen tinik. Ez tipikusan az a darab, ahol a legkevésbé sem tudott zavarni a folyamatos töprengés azon, hogy ki szűz, ki nem, ki néz pornót, ki fantáziál macskalányokról, ki káromkodik a dalszövegben, mert a tizenhét évesek pont ilyenek. Tökéletesen reális, hogy kardinális problémának érzik, hogy szűzen haltak meg, az egyik lány pedig külön kiélvezi, amikor két srác a csapatból csókolózik az egyik szám alatt.
Személyes kedvencem a csapatból – szerintem nem meglepő – Noel lett, a meleg srác, aki életében nem tudott coming outolni (főleg szülői nyomásra). Dramatikus, cinikus, bolond, érzékeny, kicsit őrült, de közben valahol végtelenül aranyos és szupportív figura. Ricky nagyon hasonló eset, talán a legtragikusabb karakternek érzem (spoiler) Mischa egyszerűen csak szerethető mint karakter (és te jó ég, mennyire szláv :D), Jane Doe nagyon para viszont nagyon megérinti a nézőt, hogy ott van emlékek és ténylegesen élet nélkül a halál kapujában. Ocean pedig idegesítő, de azért látszik, hogy ha egy főszereplőt nevezhetünk meg a Ride the Cyclone-nak, az ő – neki van talán a legnagyobb karakterfejlődése, elviselhetetlen, undorító dolgokat kommentáló ambiciózus lányból lesz tényleg jó barát, és bátor ember.
Constance-t a végére hagytam, mert őt koncepció szintjén imádom. A kettős természetű, titkos életet élő lány, aki belecsömörlött abba, hogy mindenki a barátságos jókislánynak tartja, kilépni nem mer, de a maga módján lázad, bulizik, fiúzik, és senki nem tudja róla. A baj az, hogy bár Lillian Castillo nagyon aranyos és amúgy fantasztikus hangja van, de szerintem Constance karakterét nem jól fogta meg. A duci lány helyett, aki rengeteg perverz poént süt el a darab alatt, nekem sokkal jobban működött volna egy feltűnően szép lány, aki kibontott hajjal, lazább ruhákban csábító lázadó, de egy szemüveggel, befont hajjal rögtön át tud váltani a jókislányra, akit Ocean háttérbe szorít. A szövegkönyvét is vissza lehetett volna fogni, sokkal kevesebb poénnal, sokkal csendesebben megjeleníteni a saját számáig – hivatalosan ő volt a „legkedvesebb lány”, de valójában Mischa, és Ricky is sokkal barátságosabbak voltak nála. Nem állt egészen össze a karakter, és ezt nagyon sajnálom, mert a Sugar Cloud és előtte a monológ egyébként nagyon nagy hatással volt rám.
Összességében bárkinek merem ajánlani a Ride the Cyclone-t. Érzelmi hullámvasút, nagyon jó humorral, jó zenékkel, és emlékezetes karakterekkel, amin sokat lehet gondolkodni.
